Sustainability at MCCCD
As a part of the 2008 Sustainability Resolution, Maricopa has adopted a People, Planet, Profit policy. Through this resolution MCCCD will pursue the implementation of the three elements of sustainability: environmental responsibility, social equity, and economic viability. We will make decisions and take actions to serve our present needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs.
Office of Sustainability
The Office of Sustainability at the District Office sets the vision, strategy, and policy for Sustainability at Maricopa. We execute initiatives and demonstration projects and create guides for replicating at colleges. We support college sustainability efforts by consulting, encouraging and inspiring action, and providing ideas. We create partnerships with local agencies and organizations that support the all-Maricopa mission. We facilitate co-initiatives with other MCCCD departments in order to support every aspect of the Maricopa’s People, Planet, Profit commitment.
The Sustainability Committee is composed of representatives from all colleges. The committee meets monthly for a public meeting. Click here to view minutes and agendas of past meetings.
As signatories of the Presidents Climate Commitment, Maricopa is a member of the Second Nature network, aimed at connecting and supporting higher education institutions leading in climate change action.
The American Association for Sustainability in Higher Education is a national organization committed to promoting sustainability within higher education.
